In The Heights Still A Big Seller On The Great White Way

Last years Tony Award winner for Best Musical and one of my favorite Broadway shows is In The Heights. The show which also won Tony's for Best Score and Choreography is still playing to packed houses eight times a week at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. I first saw the show during previews and thought it was one of the best things that I had seen in years.

My co-workers like to say that I am "Obsessed" with the show because I play the cast recording all the time at work. I don't care. I love it. Whenever I'm having a bad day I know all I have to do is push play and my troubles go away. I really didn't mean to rhyme but I couldn't think of anything else to say so there you are.

Now I know there are some people out there that think you have to be Spanish to enjoy the show. Trust me when I say that is not the case. Anyone who has ever had a dream can relate to this show. We all have dreams. Now whether or not they come true is up to you. That's what this show is about. After all without dreams where would we be? To be honest I hope I never have to answer that question.

Go See "In The Heights" For the 4th of July! Lots of Fireworks!

What better time then the 4th of July weekend or the Summer to see In the Heights? Justina Machado has joined the production in the role of "Daniela" for 8 weeks only from this past Monday, June 29, through Sunday, August 23, 2009 at Broadway's Richard Rodgers Theatre (226 West 46th Street).
Justina Machado is best known as Vanessa Diaz from the critically acclaimed "Six Feet Under."

As a neighborhood in Washington Heights prepares to celebrate the Fourth of July, a lottery win and various occurrences changes daily life.
This Tony Award Winner of Best New Musical of 2008 is a new sort of musical, with an old sort of heart.

The Mood of the Musical :

In the Heights focuses on the residents of a community of Washington Heights. As the events of a summer day unfold dreams are both diminished and determinedly realized.
The great strength of this show is the realistic feeling behind the individual characters and the collective community, and in this truth the audience is allowed a glimpse into the hearts and heads of a group of people and their hometown.
The production is not flawless. Parts of the plot seem rushed or slightly forced, and some of the musical numbers do not entirely hit the mark.
However, overall, it is a satisfying show with soul and spirit. Especially native New Yorkers will recognize something familiar and sincerely genuine about aspects of the show, and non-New Yorkers are treated to a show which exhibits a slither of daily neighborhood life and the combined sense of community and individuality behind it!

Get Your Tickets To In The Heights-The 2008 Tony Award Winner For Best Musical

Those of you who have read my blogs know how much I love In The Heights. Not only have I seen the show several times but I listen to the cast recording at least once or twice a week. I guess you could say I'm a fan. What's not to love? It has a great score and a story that tugs at your heart in more ways than one. Last month PBS presented a documentary on the show titled In The Heights: Chasing Broadway Dreams which was a behind-the-scenes story of the show. I found the documentary very inspiring and if you haven't seen it I encourage you to check it out if you get the chance. I have included a link to it on You Tube. Enjoy! I know I did.

Below Face Value Deals to See "Six Feet Under" Star Justina Machado Who Will Step Into Broadway's "In the Heights"

Beautiful Justina Machado will take over the role of salon owner Daniela in Broadway's Tony Award-winning Best Musical In the Heights for eight weeks starting June 29 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. Andréa Burns created the role.

Machado, who is best known as Vanessa Diaz from the critically acclaimed series "Six Feet Under," will appear through Aug. 23. I loved Six Feet Under. I watched it faithfully every Sunday night on HBO and found Machado to be very attractive. I miss it a lot actually! With her "Six Feet Under" co-stars, Machado won a 2004 SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. This past television season she was featured on "Ugly Betty" as Cousin Clara and on the final season of "ER" as Claudia Diaz. In the fall, she will be seen on the upcoming CBS show "Three Rivers" opposite Alex O'Laughlin and in the independent film "Pedro," which has been accepted into the 2009 Toronto Film Festival.

In the Heights, a romantic musical comedy snapshot of the Latino community of Washington Heights, in northern Manhattan, is the winner of four 2008 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Lin-Manuel Miranda won the 2008 Tony for Best Score, Andy Blankenbuehler won the 2008 Tony for Best Choreography, and Alex Lacamoire and Bill Sherman won the 2008 Tony Award for Best Orchestrations.
